Chapter 2: "The Blazing Horizon"

Zamboanga, Philippines...
One week after the Battle of Torrington Base...

A full week has passed since the futile attack on Torrington Base happened. On their way out of the Australian waters, a pair of Aqua GMs sunk two of the three remaining Mad Angler submarines, leaving only Boss Chief and his motley crew as survivors. With only 10 mobile suits, they could hardly be called an army. Instead of heading for their intended destination, Africa, the last Mad Angler took a detour and headed for the Philippines.

This island nation harbored many secret Zeon supporters. Under the guise of Muslim pilgrims, the Zeon remnants hid in Zamboanga, hoping to use religious freedom to deter suspicion away from them. In the course of one night, the Zeon suits were all successfully loaded out of the sub, and hidden in the mountainous regions of the area.

Now freely roaming the city, Boss Chief searched for former Zeon pilots, whom he can use as additional forces in their next step. But, although he found some, they were unwilling to fight. These former pilots were all content with their now-normal lives, living in peace without fearing for their safety.

Boss Chief was staying in some lowly, run-down inn all by himself. He had sent the crew all over the city, just to blend in while he buys time. And then, somebody came to him and informed him that there were a few mobile suits left from the late 0080s.

"You Boss Chief?" asked the stranger. Boss Chief scratched his head and faced the stranger. "Yes I am, why?"he asked. The stranger gave him a small notebook containing the location of these extra mobile suits. "I'm sure your crew could use a Zssa..." he said, before leaving the Chief alone. Boss Chief immediately picked up his radio communicator and called Leon Beldi.

"I'm at Carabao Street, in the Pudgefeather hotel. Are you nearby? I need your expertise regarding something we could use..."

Unlike the other Remnants, Javier remained in the mountainous regions near the border of the town. He had hidden his Galluss-J among a thicket of trees, its green color blending in perfectly for camouflage. He stayed up all night, fixing the Galluss's damage parts. There was still a lot of work to do, but Javier worked on them fast. Borrowing some construction equipment from the town made the job easier.

A white hawk flew overhead. It was very beautiful. Javier felt envious of the free creature as it majestically soared across the skies. He remembered Loni, and her beautiful face. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he thought about her.

He ran and ran, cutting through the tall grass until he came to the edge of the cliff. Javier saw rocks tumble hundreds of feet down. He wanted to jump too, he wanted to kill himself to end the pain. But his conscience won't let him. He stepped back and fell flat on his back, looking up at the sky, and the hawk. He yelled on top of his lungs.

"I don't want to fight! I never wanted to be a soldier! I just want to live free, like a bird!!" he yelled, crying.

Arc had gone out into the town wearing normal clothes. He had wandered aimlessly about the town until he had come across a Go parlor. He had been in the parlor for several hours playing Go and chatting with the locals. He had beaten several people but was currently playing teaching games with the town's children. He found it entertaining watching the kids trying to make the best moves. Looking at his watch Arc realized he should check in with the Captain. "Sorry kids but I must leave soon tho we have time for a couple more games." Arc said when he saw the looks the kids were giving him. The Captain would call if needed and he doubted his presence would make any difference as the Boss went looking for supporters so he decided to relax and play a few more games before checking in.

One week after the Battle of Torrington Base...

Unbeknownst to Javier, Rap was in the vicinity, scavenging for fruits and other berries for lunch. His Z'gok was placed a few hundred meters away from the Galluss-J, tucked nicely inside a cave. The ever-mischievous Lt. JG noticed Javier lying on the ground, gazing at the clouds. He crept up behind the melancholic kid.

Rap opened his zipper, took out his dick and freely pissed on Javier's face. As he urinated, he shivered with a ghoulish laugh. "AHAKHAKHAKHAKHAKHAK! You fakking son of a bitch! What are you doing here getting all cozy with the ground?! You go back to work and repair that Galluss-J you wrecked, lazy fakker!" Rap boomed at Javier. After he emptied his bladder on the noobie pilot's face, he zipped back his pants and picked up the berries he gathered.

"You got 2 hours. When I come back here and I see that Galluss still looking like a sackful of shit, I am gonna take this twig..." Rap said, breaking a small tree branch, "and shove it up your fakking ass! Move it Javier!"

Lazra walked the streets, watching the citizens passing by.him. After he had placed the Marasai in the woods nearby, he changed into his civilian clothing, so that he could keep his identity as a Remnant hidden. He wasn't sure if the were any enemy soldiers in the city, but he would rather not take that chance.

One week after the Battle of Torrington Base...

Arthor walked around his Capule to make sure all the camouflage was covering it up. Arthor stopped walking around and looked around the trees. It was more peaceful here than he thought it was. The birds where chirping and there was a squirrel setting on a branch watching Arthor. Arthor smiled as he watched the squirrel eat a nut. Arthor looked back at his Capule.

"Man I wish he would of given me a Zaku, I never used this before."

Arthor let out a sigh and started to walk to the cliff. As he came into the clearing Arthor notice Rap pissing on Javier. Letting out a small laugh, he started walking up to them.

"Sir, why are you doing that to him?"

Leon at the moment that Boss Chief was indeed close by, but at the moment, he was inside one of the air intakes of his Dom Tropen, working on the unit he would be using in the upcomming battle. People passing by his section of the woods could hear angry noises comming from the woods, followed by bounts of cursing, and banging.

When Leon's radio went off, Leon bangs his head on the inside of the intake, and with a loud amount of cursing, he answers his Radio.

"Yeah Boss, let me finish up here, and I will be there. Give me 15 minutes."

Leon guessed that Boss had something mobile suit related, as it was his specialty.

"Yes STRIP! STRIP for the glory of Zeon!" Elliot was careful not to vocalize these thoughts as the scantily clad philipino man thrust his business at her face in beat to the jaunty club music that permeated the shady little bar. Leaning back against the black faux leather sofa with a drink in her hand, and a smile on her face the soldier of zeon fluttered a cred slip in front of young dancer urging him on for her entertainment

That's right Terran! Dance! DANCE FOR THE GLORY OF ZEON! Ok so maybe this wasn't what Boss Chief had in mind when he ordered the pilots to scout out the situation in the city, but she'd finished maintence work on her Zaku early and figured she earned herself a nice evening off. Also it wasn't like she was shooting up dope or falling back on alcohol to cope with what happened a week ago.

If she had to be completely honest, ever since that incident off the coast of Australia she'd been on edge. Being a soldier she had long ago gotten used to the sudden, and seemingly random loss of life that went hand in hand with war. It was a callous but necessary way of thinking, and yet even with that callous on her soul the loss of so many of the people who had fought by her side shook her to her very core. Ever since then Elliot worried, worried over whether a random accident would transform their Mad Angler into a bilge soaked coffin, worried over when the next EFF strike would come, worried over whether or not the Torrington survivors would be able to repel such an assault, worried over whether she would be able to return to Side 3.

Pushing those thoughts aside with a long slow drink, she locked eyes with the dancer and bid him continue his dance. It was a pretty distraction, and god knows she needed one if only for this moment at least.

And then, the midshipman Arthor Pale showed up and questioned Rap's perverted ways. Rap gritted his teeth. "Hey Pale where the fakk did you place your mobile suit? It better not be a sitting dakk!" he said to Pale. He grabbed the sack of berries and pointed to the town.

"You two work on your fakking mobile suits first, then when you're done go to town, grab a beer, and fakk some cunts. There are nice Filipina women in that city, and they'll be happy to take your cakk and sakk them with their voracious mouths. How I long craved for Filipina women! Hakhakhakak! Let's ransack this town and find some pussy!"

BGM: "FEAR-SORROW"


The appearance of the Empyrean, Londo Bell's other Ra Cailum ship over the horizon, made the locals very restless. The Earth Federation has always suspected this Philippine city of supporting rebel movements, but never found any evidence so far. Nonetheless, Tatiana chose to land the ship at the beach, for she knew that the investigation had to be done.

Thanks to Jim, the lone survivor of that encounter with the Mad Anglers, the Empyrean's crew were able to pinpoint the exact direction the remnants were headed. And although, there were no signs of them yet, she had a gut feeling that the Remnants were indeed here.

"Alright Londo Bell team, go out into the city peacefully, and try to conduct investigations of your own. I'm sure the locals are wary of our presence, and they may not disclose any information. Stay sharp, stay focused, and do not reveal our true identities. Wear ordinary clothing... but carry a small firearm with you, alright?" she ordered her 5 men. Before they could leave the bridge, Tatiana had one more request. "I need somebody to come with me. I'm going out too and I need somebody to escort me..."

After the mission briefing on the bridge of the Empyrean, the Captain asked if one of them if they would be her escort. James stepped forward and offered his service to her. "Captain, I will be your escort, Ma'am!" He said firmly as he saluted his Captain. "I promise you I will not let you down!"

Dust had expected this would be their assignment as it was a more practical course of action than deploying and searching all over, that would just cause a stir and would not help out with the locals. Dust had already been in his civilian clothes with 2 firearms hidden is the jacket of his casual suit. His favorite sunglasses on once more as he saluted his Captain once she finished relaying their orders.

"Well mam it looks like James has beaten me to the punch, but I would also be willing to escort you."

Luciano had listened to the Captain's briefing. The events of a week ago were still clear in his mind and one Petty Officer was lucky that he had refrained from pulling him off the mission and any subsequent operations, damn fool would be more useful in a desk job than Londo Bell with that attitude. He sighed, making sure the rest could not hear him, trying to put those feelings back down inside of him. The Captain's 'request' shook him from his thoughts.

Of course, two of his men had already stepped forward. But before anymore trouble was to be had from this he decided to make it a little more easy for his men, "Captain, I believe any one of the squadron would happily accompany. Therefore perhaps it would be better if you picked the man you feel is more suited to the job?", by that he didn't mean himself necessarily but rather just whoever the Captain was willing to trust with the responsibility.

While everyone was lined up to kiss the Captain's ass, Wesley utilized this time to find a safe haven within the ship where he could be alone. He was already over the incident that happened a week ago. But he felt that the lieutenant was still bitter towards him because he's been giving him the cold shoulder and eerie stares. Regardless of the previous warnings he's already received from his superiors, Wesley pulled out another rollie from his pocket and started smoking. Then he took out his phone from his other pocket and unlocked it, then he played a video of his wife and 2 year-old daughter. Wesley watched the video while he finished his cigarette, he's been watching the same video of his family for the past 8 months now. When the video ended, Wesley pulled out a message box and began texting.

One week after the escape from Battle.


Everyone was still on edge even after one week has passed, Losing most of their comrades by a quick flick in the moment, was too much for most of the remnants and their Captain, save for one--One who doesn't care anymore, Who thinks everything else is dull and dead. Johann. He had just come out from the Sub after cleaning It's MS hangar alone, Since Javier spent most of his time dreaming like a little boy. But even so, Johann was happy to do it alone, He would rather do it alone than spend time with someone who was more pathetic than him in the past.

He maneuvered the Efreet Schneid Tactfully around the lush surrounding forests of Zamboanga. In fact, He knew the place somewhat even though he came from the Colonies. Yes, A Ghost of him came from here, knew this place and told him about it. Johann's mood from uncaring and bored suddenly flickered to pissed and agitated once again. If he didn't have the Efreet to maneuver around, He would gone out randomly shooting anything that moved to relieve himself of his aggression.

He had seen his mentor's Z'gok nearby, and decided to park the Efreet on a nearby ravine, covered by a small waterfall, that covered it perfectly. Being the Scout and ground trooper that he is, Johann had no trouble navigating the troublesome mountain and it's steep slopes and high grasses that seemed to obscure a lot of things.

After walking for awhile He heard a familar voice, The voice of a pathetic man.

He suddenly spoke as he was standing side-ways arm outstretched and revolver aimed at the hawk that flew past by.

"If you don't want to fight, then why are you here?"He cocked the barrel of the gun. "Didn't you know you cost the life of more than a dozen men by your reckless and half-assed action?"

He closed his other eye and aimed at the hawk that was still in range, He took deep breaths as he aimed.

"You're nothing but a baby, a person who rejects the current reality he was in..."

He then pulled the trigger and shot the hawk the best he can.

Johann smirked, he missed, one of the rare occasions he did. He folded his arm and holstered his revolver safely. Before leaving a snide comment behind for Javier.

"What do you know, Your Hawk is good at running away too. But then again a miss is a miss" He walked past rap who suddenly began peeing on and berating Javier, Poor Kid. NOT. He deserved it in more ways than one. And one new guy decided to question and talk back to rap, Bad decision. Never ever talk back to rap unless you've known each other for quite awhile to earn that right.

Johann held his stiff shoulder and massaged it with closed eyes listening to Rap's suggestion.

"Well Rap," He said with a small grunt from being able to make his shoulder leave out a sound of a crack. "I know you know, I'm not into those stuff, But right now. I know the place where to find them..."

A flash of memories suddenly went past Johann's mind, He looked to his right with narrowed eyes fighting them back before continuing on with what he was saying.

"I got an...old friend who came from here and told me a lot about this place...Besides this is the territory of MILF (Morro Islamic Liberation Front), I'm sure they're keeping track of those brothels or bars that soldiers frequent in."

He pulled out a cloak from his gear that was slung around his shoulder. It covered him until his waist but his lower half was revealed.

"I'll be using this, Since Muslims like to go around with this I can perfectly blend in with the crowd, Apparently I didn't bring any casual clothes with me to use to go to town in" After making sure it wouldn't be removed easily and his face couldn't be easily seen he faced rap and asked.

"So are we ready to go?"

As the londo bell team was being briefed, Theo was leaning against the wall next to the bridge door.
After Tatiana was done speaking he peaked his head through for a moment and said:
Captain Romanova, when you have a second I would appreciate a moment of your time to discuss a rather sensitive matter. Alone if you don't mind.

He tried to make this request as sincere are possible. He didn't want things to come off like Magnusson and his lackeys leading her into some kind of trap. Magnusson and his "harmless antics" well, that was the whole matter he was here to talk about for fucks sake.

The midday sun was burning hot. Magnusson disembarked the ship, along with his dear pet Sierra. He was suffering from mild arthritis today, which was the cause of his bad mood. Shuffling the sand, he stood under the shade of a palm tree and cursed the sea.

"Shit these Zekes are making me..." he murmured. Then he received a call from the other Ra cailum-class ship, the Ra Cailum itself. The voice at the other end of the line, mentioned that they have both White and Black Unicorns in their custody.



"Heh... all you got are fancy shit mobile suits!" he hollered back. "Fuck you Bright! The crew you sent me are lousy, stupid, good-for-nothing, shit-eating, ass-kissing cunts!!" With that, he threw the phone into the ocean. Magnusson then whistled to the maintenance crew on the shore.

"Unload the mobile suits! Then get the EFF pilots to report here ASAP!" he ordered one of the repairmen. The repairman ran back and called the EFF pilots and told them to see Magnusson by the beach. "Wheres ERIKSON!? I want that bitch here right now!"

Coincidentally, or perhaps due to fate playing a game, Risa was also in the Philippines, to be exact, in Zamboanga. She wanted to write a short story about a Muslim family, and so, she traveled to the Philippines, where both Muslims and Christians thrive side by side. It was for her, an interesting angle to the story she had planned.

"A love story, between a Christian boy, and a Muslim girl. Heehee! Now, that'd be awesome!" she chuckled. She scribbled down a few notes in her notebook as she walked by the market. A sweet aroma, something meaty caught her nose's attention. She followed the trail, and found a vendor, roasting some animal.

"What's that? A goat?" she asked. The vendor shook his head and told her that it was a stray dog. Risa wanted to barf. "They... eat... dogs??" she gulped.

One week after the Battle of Torrington Base...
Shore...

With a big sigh, Lt. Grant lowered himself from his Striker Custom onto the shore, and made his way toward his commander. He had been going over previous fights and the footage from Torrington, watching how the Gundam dealt with the Mobile Armor, and whenever he left his room, was always seen with a frown on his face. In fact, some would say that he had mellowed down seeing as he hadn't made a single snide remark the entire voyage, bar the first day.

Standing before the Captain, he saluted, "Lt. Grant reporting for duty, sir!"

With that he waited for the others, and hoped they weren't overlong, because if they were, he would push them so hard that they would wish they had never joined the military. He hated people who weren't punctual. And he didn't care if they said their family was dead. After all, his was, and you didn't see him crying about it. Plus, when they joined the EFF, they swore to put the Federation above their families, so it shouldn't be a concern anyway. Sure, Bright might have been lenient on the person if their family just died, but Bright was to soft in his opinion. The best thing he ever did was slap Amuro across the face to get him moving.

And if he ever saw any of his men (or woman) act like an emo-brat, he would do so much worse than slap.

Shoreline, near the Empyrean...

Before the Empyrean landed Angela was already dressed in civilian clothes. Unaware of Captain Magnusson's orders, Angela had already disembarked from the ship a few minutes after it landed. Captivated by the sparkling white sand, and crystal clear waters, she ran across the coast line, and jumped into the water.

She saw some of the crew going down from the ship and onto the beach. She called them out loud. "Heeeeeeeeeeeey guys! Come here and look! There are a lot of fishes! The water is really, really refreshing!" she said, playing like a child. The crew shook their heads in disbelief.

"Miss Angela, we're not here to relax!" said one of the mechanics. "Get out of the water before the Captains see you! And I believe he's calling all pilots to report to him now!"

Angela pouted. She dragged herself out of the water, annoyed. What did the Captain want with her now? She reluctantly walked over to Magnusson and saluted him, while she is dripping wet.

"Sir, Angela Hayashi reporting for duty sir!" she saluted the fearsome captain.

Zamboanga City, Philippines.

Hayase had been aimlessly wandering around the city for what seemed to like hours. he tilted his head up staring up at the sky. “I’m not a detective here. How is sending all of us out into the city to look for the Zeon going to help?” Hayase thought to himself. “Heck its not like they are going to jump up and down and say. Look over here.” He quickly ran his hand down his face as he looked back down. His stomach then began to groan. He had skip the last meal on the ship so he could spend sometime writing in his notebook. Hayase rubbed his stomach and then patted it twice. “Ok, You win. I will find something to eat.

Hayase walked down a few more blocks before the scent of chicken caught his nose. He then turned and walked up to a small stand. An older woman looked at him and smiled. “What can i get you?” she asked politely. Hayase held up two fingers. “Two of those if you don’t mind.” he said returning the woman’s smile. Hayase quickly paid the woman and turned to walk away. when he heard something that made his heart skip a beat or two.

Hayase tossed his head and walked toward her. As he got closer he could hear Risa speaking with the man running the stand. Hayase stopped a few feet away from her as he spoke.

Vincent Solano stumbled as he finished climbing down from his Dom Tropen, which was carefully hidden under an outcropping of rock outside of the town. After catching himself from the potentially embarrassing misstep, he sighed and rolled his eyes at the situation.

“Damn Earth gravity, no wonder the Earthers souls are constrained to this dirtball. How can they move under these conditions?”

Briefly checking over himself to ensure he had removed all Zeon insignia, Vincent began his trek towards town, fuming at the indignity of having to remove his uniform just to go snooping about some backwater. However, he understood the importance of the mission and bore the situation accordingly. As he walked, Vincent removed a picture from his pocket and stared at it.

“Mom, dad, I will not let you down. For the glory of Zeon, we will purge these retched masses.”

Reaching the town, Vincent wandered the streets until he came across a series of street vendors. They seemed to be vending food, which led him to approach until his nose met the smells emitted by the stalls. Unused to the pungent smells, Vincent grabbed his nose and stepped back. Forgetting his self-control for a moment, he exclaimed aloud,

“That is bloody disgusting. How the hell can they eat this stuff?”

Zamboanga, beach...

Filled with new hope, Alexander left the ship and proceeded to the beach. He savored the cool, gentle wind. The place reminded him so much of his old home in South America. He was nearly tempted to dip his feet in the waters but then, a crazy little Angela Hayashi was playing there like a little child. Alexander felt ashamed for her.

He saw the Captain of the Earth Federation forces, their leader, the bald Magnusson resting under the shade of a tropical tree. He also caught a glimpse of his pig. "That, rotten animal... I wonder if it has more human rights than us..." he wondered. Hearing Magnusson call out for them, he approached the Captain and did his best to impress the superior officer.

"Reporting for duty Sir! Is there anything we can do for you?" he blurted out. Standing beside him was that cold fellow, Lieutenant Grant. Alexander had always been wary of this Lieutenant since day one, to him, Grant was as icy cold and as cruel as Magnusson.
